It’s been nearly two months since a five-car accident took the life of a 71-year-old man in Miami, Florida; however, for his family, this doesn’t make the tragedy any easier to bear. According to police reports, thecar accident was caused by a 36-year-old woman who was driving under the influence of alcohol. She is now facing several serious charges, including DUI manslaughter.

The multi-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on May 9 at the in tersection of 47th and NW 7th Avenue. Police reports state that the vehicle the woman was driving was traveling over 70 mph when she smashed into another vehicle that was making a left-hand turn. The posted speed limit was only 40 mph. The car that she hit then crashed into the 71-year-old’s vehicle, which launched into the air and was then struck again. The man was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

The woman allegedly told police she smoked marijuana the day before the accident and that she takes several different medications. She turned herself into police on Monday, August 5. She has been charged with driving under the influence and manslaughter. There is no information available as to her bond or an upcoming court date.
